Elpis

Our name

Why Elpis?

In Greek mythology, Pandora opened a box that released every ill into the world. Plagues, grief, suffering poured out. But one thing stayed at the bottom, trapped inside: Elpis, the spirit of hope. We named this community after her. Because that is what we are: the thing that stays when everything else feels like too much.

The name

Elpis (el-pis) was not hope as a passive wish. She was an active spirit, a presence. The Greeks understood that hope required somewhere to live. We built that place.

What Elpis is

Elpis is a peer community for people living with chronic illness. Anonymous, organized by condition, and built on one belief: the person who truly understands your diagnosis is usually someone living it right alongside you.

  • Anonymous by default. No real names, no profile photos.
  • Condition-specific groups, so the people answering you have walked the same road.
  • No algorithms pushing engagement. Just honest conversation between peers.
  • Free for every member, always.

What Elpis is not

Elpis is not a source of medical advice.

  • We are not doctors, nurses, or clinicians. Nothing posted here is a diagnosis, prescription, or treatment plan.
  • We are not a substitute for professional care. Always bring decisions about your health to a licensed provider who knows your history.
  • We are not an emergency service. If you are in crisis or danger, call or text 988 (US) or your local emergency number.
Everything shared on Elpis is one person’s lived experience: valuable context, never a clinical recommendation.

Our promise

Every member of Elpis is owed a space safe enough to be honest in. That means:

  • You stay anonymous.

You post under a handle you pick. Your phone number and location are never shown to other members: only to a small admin team, and only for safety.

  • No judgment.

Shaming, blame, miracle cures, and sales pitches get removed. People come here honest and scared; we protect that vulnerability.

  • Real humans are watching.

Posts can be flagged in one tap, and a moderation team reviews them. Repeat harm gets people removed.

  • You can just listen.

There is no pressure to post. Reading quietly, finding comfort in knowing others feel what you feel, that counts. That’s hope, too.

Ready when you are.

Join in under a minute, or look around first. Elpis will be here no matter when you’re ready.
